Index Pages

A simple Index Page Template has already been created for you. Enable the Index Page on the Cover / Contents / Index Tab.

The best way to explain how to create an Index is to demonstrate how the options work with a small amount of data. In this example, we start with no options selected.

The resulting Index is a simple list of each product and the Page it appears on. With no sorting options, the products appear in their printing order, which happens to be Alphabetical, by Category.

NOTE: The Page Numbers in the Index may not be accurate until you have printed your complete catalog for the first time. This is especially true if you are using Dynamic Templates.

The most common option used with an Index Page is a change to the Index Page Template.

Open the Template Editor and set the Printing Option On the Config Tab to: "Labels where Subcategory changes".

In all Product Categories, this option refers to the optional Subcategory. For the Index Page category, it enables the Category Label instead.

Enabling this option creates a break in the column at the top of each category.

For the next example, I've selected the "Name" column for Sort by.

NOTE: The Labels in the drop-down Selectors are taken from the current category. Click any row in the Category List to highlight it and populate the list with Labels. If you skip this step, the Labels will read "Data1, Data2, etc".

Now, the Index is sorted by Name, but there's a problem.

The Index contains products from every category. This results in a list where categories are separated with repeating breaks.

When sorting this way, you would not normally enable the Category Labels on the Template Editor.

But instead of dropping the Category Label, a better option may be to check Group Index by Category.

Now, the Index is still sorted by Name, making it easy to find a product, but it's also grouped by Category, which may be easier still.

To index variants, check Include Variants in Index and edit the Index Page Template to add cells related to variants, such as SKU.

If you imported your Wix Product Data using the Multiple Categories option, you may need to check Hide Duplicates to prevent rows repeating in the Index.
This will instead list all the comma-separated pages the product appears on in a single row.

Here's an example where the Products were printed Alphabetically, and the Variants were sorted by Price, but the Index is sorted by SKU.

It's not necessary for the Index Order to match the Printing Order, or for the fields you sort by to be included in the template.
